Colin Goh and Woo Yen Yen

The confluence of all the recent news about:

• Singapore’s dual economy,
• the growing income gap,
• homeless Singaporeans (!),
• an MP’s comment that the homeless in Singapore might be homeless of their own volition (!!),
• SM Goh Chok Tong’s modest proposal of getting Singapore’s rich to voluntarily tithe a small percentage of their income to charity (suggested: 0.5%),
• the ‘elite, uncaring face’ controversy,
• the NKF trial and Mrs. Goh’s unfortunate ‘peanuts’ comment

has for some reason, brought to mind a very early column of mine - only the third piece I ever wrote. Four years later, it sadly seems like monkey business as usual.
