Viva Pollo Campero!

Here’s a tip for you Singaporeans looking for some new F&B fad to import into Singapore.
Two years ago, Yen and I, accompanied by our good buddies Eddie and George, trekked up to Corona in Queens to experience Pollo Campero, the Guatemalan Fried Chicken chain that had all of New York in a frenzy, especially the Hispanic population.
There were tales of people lining up for 9 hours for a taste, and hordes packing buckets at the Guatemalan Airport branch to take back to the States for their deprived relatives. Well, we weren’t disappointed. The chicken is more than the equal to KFC - it’s less greasy outside and very moist inside, even the breast meat, which is no mean feat.
Last night, Yen and I got lost in Bayshore after her first class at LIU’s Brentwood campus, but it turned out to be a very happy accident because we stumbled upon another Pollo Campero branch!
We each had a 3 piece meal, with tostones (fried plantains) and plenty of salsa, salsa verde and jalapenos. Still as good as ever. We also learned that they’ve recently opened branches in China. Considering that KFC is doing even better than McDonald’s in China, I think Pollo Campero has more than a decent chance.
